Senior Backend Engineer

Location: Hybrid - San Mateo, CA

Compensation: $150K-$200K base + 10% Bonus + Equity

We are a fast-growing, venture-backed healthcare fintech startup focused on automating financial operations in healthcare through cutting-edge AI solutions. Our mission is to enable providers to deliver higher-quality patient care by removing financial complexity from their workflows.

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our hybrid team in San Mateo. You'll play a key role in building scalable systems, driving technical architecture, and mentoring junior engineers, all while collaborating in a fast-paced, AI-forward environment.

What You'll Do:

Write clean, scalable, and maintainable backend code primarily in Python (Flask experience preferred)
Lead and contribute to system architecture, technical design, and new product features
Help establish and evolve high-quality development, testing, and engineering practices
Work closely with Infrastructure, Data Engineering, and Product teams to deliver seamless solutions
Mentor and support the growth of more junior engineers
Actively leverage AI tools to enhance development workflows and drive efficiency

What We're Looking For:

5+ years of backend software engineering experience, with strong expertise in Python
Demonstrated success building distributed, scalable, and maintainable systems
Infrastructure experience with AWS or GCP
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (BSCS) or a related technical field
Excellent communication skills - able to clearly explain technical concepts in conversational English
Genuine enthusiasm for AI and a proactive attitude toward using AI tools in everyday development work
